Introduction
Rumors are that Apple is planning to discontinue the iPhone Plus series and replace it with the new line to be known as the iPhone Slim. The last smartphone on the Plus lineup will be the iPhone 16 Plus which will be launched at the end of 2024. Therefore the first model in the new series will be the iPhone 17 Slim with a different design approach. It is expected that the Slim lineup will stand between the normal and pro models replicating the position of the iPhone Plus series. Design
As the name suggests the smartphone will come with a significantly thinner design with an aluminum frame and a narrower dynamic island. The back panel of the smartphone will most probably feature a new camera layout not seen in an iPhone. More specifically the camera will be placed on the top center of the smartphone rather than the traditional top left corner design which was followed since 2007.
Display
Major upgrades are expected to be seen on the display specification of the iPhone 17 Slim. After the popularity of the anti-reflective coating on the Samsung S24 Ultra due to its impressive use cases, the new lineup will also bring a super-hard anti-reflective layer with more scratch resistance capabilities. This will be more efficient than the ceramic shield as mentioned by the Chinese Weibo leaker Instant Digital.
The size of the display is expected to be around 6.55 inches as stated by the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young. Moreover, the display will be a 120 hz OLED screen with a resolution of 1284 x 3200 pixels or as Apple calls it the Super Retina XDR Display. The display will also come with ‘ProMotion’ capabilities allowing the phone to reach 1 Hz in the time of requirement. The iPhone 17 Slim will most probably be the first non-pro model to feature such specifications from Apple.

Camera
The upcoming iPhone 17 Slim will feature a dual camera with a 50-megapixel primary and 12-megapixel secondary sensor. The handset will support 4K @ 24 fps UHD Video Recording reflecting the boost in the camera quality. The selfie camera is rumored to have a 24-megapixel sensor with a six-element lens as per the information given by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Performance
The rumored iPhone 17 Slim will most probably powered by the A19 Bionic chipset of Apple. Moreover, the power of the processor will be supported by 8GB of RAM. The reason behind this is the upcoming integration on-device Apple Intelligence (AI) feature in the smartphone. This is a notable upgrade in comparison to the 6 GB RAM of the current iPhone 15 Plus. The inbuilt memory will most probably be the same that is 128 GB in iPhone 17 Slim.
Launch Date and Pricing
The launch date is expected to be in the last or the second-last quarter of 2025. With all the mentioned upgrades the pricing of the iPhone 17 Slim is rumored to be higher than our expectations. Some say it will be the most expensive to be launched till that date “justifying the boost in the specifications.
