Introduction

Today, Motorola launched its much-awaited foldable device, Motorola Razr 50 and Razr 50, alongside a bunch of other tech devices in China. The Global launch date for the device is expected soon as the landing page for the device has appeared on Amazon.

Design and Build

The frame on the Razr 50 Ultra is aluminum with elements of plastic for the main display, Gorilla Glass Victus(unconfirmed) for the cover display, and a vegan leather back giving users a soft-touch experience. The hinge this time is a stainless steel one. For the first time for a Razr series phone, an IPX8 protection has been seen which allows the user to withstand a water immersion depth of up to 1.5m for only 10 secs. The device has a sub-190g weight and comes on offer with three colours-Peach Fuzz, Navy Blazer, and Dill.

Display

Motorola decided to go the extra mile when then decided to offer thinner bezels and enlarged cover display size than their previous year’s folding flagship. The device offers a 1-165Hz variable refresh rate for both the 6.9″ main and the 4″ cover display with 1080p panels. Moreover, both displays support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for a cinematic viewing experience.

The main display offers a peak brightness of 3000nits whereas the cover display offers a peak brightness of 2400nits. The Touch Sampling Rate for the main display peaks at 360Hz. The large cover display comes in handy while taking selfies, navigating, seeing videos, etc.

Camera

The camera department is fairly improved for the Razr 50 Ultra compared to its predecessor. The main camera boasts a 50MP f/1.7 lens with Optical Image Stabilisation and has a 50MP f/2.0 Telephoto sensor to back it up which has an optical zoom of 2X. Both the lens can shoot videos at 4K@60fps.

The selfie camera is a 32MP f/2.4 lens with HDR and video recording at 4K@60fps. This year Razr 50 Ultra brings many AI camera features like Super Zoom, Adaptive Stabilisation, Action Shot, and Intelligent Auto-focus Tracking.

Performance

The device comes with the near-flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 which boasts a peak clock speed of 3.0Hz coming out of a Cortex-X4 core. The phone features a flagship-grade Adreno 735 GPU and comes in two variants-12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. The storage type is UFS 4.0. The phone comes with Android 14 and Moto MyUX running on top which also gets the motoAI features.

Battery

The phone comes with a fairly reliable 4000mAh battery which can roughly get through 1 day. The phone has charging support for 45W wired and 15W wireless, both of which are upgrades from last year. It also supports reverse wireless charging of 5W.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Price

Moto Razr 50 Ultra has been launched at a price of CNY5,699 ($785/€730) for the 12/256 GB variant and CNY6,199 ($850/€800) for the 12/512GB variant. The expected prices for the variants in India are expected to start at Rs 69,999 following the pricing of its predecessor, the Moto Razr 40 Ultra.
