Tata-owned luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover cars will now be manufactured in India thanks. The manufacturing will take place for two of the brand’s flagship line-up of SUVs – the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, which will decrease the prices for the two SUVs substantially.
New Prices for the Range Rovers
Previously, the two cars came to India in a fully built form and were termed Completely Built Units (CBU) which attracted an import duty of 70% on the price of the cars. Now the car parts will be manufactured in England and imported for assembly in an Indian plant. These are called Completely Knocked Down(CKD) units. This form of importing will drastically decrease the import duty on parts price to 15%.
The new on-road price for the Range Rover 3.0L HSE Diesel is Rs 2.36 Crores, which is Rs 44 Lacs less than its previous price of Rs 2.8 Crores.
The new on-road price for the Range Rover 3.0L HSE LWB Petrol is Rs 2.6 Crores, which is Rs 56 Lacs less than its previous price of Rs 3.16 Crores.
The new on-road price for the Range Rover Sport Dynamic 3.0 SE is Rs 1.4 Crores, which is Rs 29 Lacs less than its previous price of Rs 1.69 Crores.
However, it is to be noted that not all the models will be assembled in India and hence, they will not be reaching the customers at a lower price than earlier. The customization options that the buyers had previously had also been restricted to a handful.

About the Plant
The manufacturing for the two SUVs mentioned above used to happen only in Solihull, England. Now, the assembly will be done in the manufacturing plant of Tata Motors Ltd. in Chikhali, Pune which is situated in the state of Maharashtra. This plant covers an area of more than 500 acres and is one of the largest plants Tata Motors has in India.
Conclusion and Remarks
The brand used to assemble its cars the – F-Pace, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Evoque, and Discovery Sport in the plant at Chakan, Pune.
The automobile industry saw a rise surging 81% in the Financial Year 2023-24. The brand saw this as an opportunity to increase its sales by reducing its prices and delivery waiting period for consumers. Previously, the Land Rover Freelander’s assembly in India increased sales in India and gave Jaguar Land Rover a good market share in the luxury SUV segment.
Tata Group Chairman, Shri N. Chandrasekaran said “The Range Rover will be manufactured right here in India is just a super feeling.. its a very very special moment and I feel proud”.
He added, “We will sell more, I am very confident that it’s going to be a great journey from here”.
