Introduction

Since the advent of fall 2020, India has seen an increase in demand for SUVs. By May 2024, the total market share was seen to be 53.6% for SUVs in total car sales and is expected to rise even further by the end of the Financial Year 2024-25.

As the demand rises, more manufacturers are willing to bring their cars to India. Here’s a list of the best SUVs that are expected to arrive in India this year:

SUVs over ₹40Lacs

1. Ford Endeavour

We have been anticipating the return of the American company, Ford to bring its renowned SUV, Endeavour to the Indian car market. In the International market, this car is called the Everest and was recently seen testing in India.

The car is rumored to feature a 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel Engine producing 209PS Power and 500Nm Torque with Manual Transmission. The engine will be BS VI 2.0 compliant for emission purposes and the car will accompany 20″ tyres with a disc-braking system. The seating capacity is estimated to be for 7 passengers. This might be a sub-5 meter SUV. Ex-showroom pricing is estimated to be in the range of ₹37Lacs to ₹55Lacs. The expected launch date is fall 2024.

2. Xiaomi SU7

Who could’ve thought that the Chinese gadget and appliance-manufacturing giant would’ve ventured into car manufacturing but, the diversification proved real and the demand for the SU7 seems unreal.

This smart SUV from Xiaomi offers a wide variety of interior and exterior color choices with a seating capacity of 5. The electric SU7 comes with a CLTC range of 700km and an advertised 350km range with 15 minutes of charging with a 486-Volt SiC Platform. It comes with a top speed of 265km/h and an acceleration from 0-100km/h within 2.78 seconds. The Chinese variant was launched at 215,900 yuan which translates to ₹24.90Lacs. However, the Indian pricing is expected to be starting from somewhere around ₹45Lacs. The expected launch date is the latter half of 2024. However, some estimate that the launch might get delayed till 2025.

3. Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai has a history of being a reputed carmaker in the Indian market. It had launched the old Santa Fe back in 2011 which was discontinued in the year 2014 as the car was making fair sales. Now Hyundai is set to launch its newest flagship in the Indian market due to the high-rising demand for SUVs among Indian consumers.

The Santa Fe will sport a 2.2L Diesel Engine and no automatic transmission. It will be a sub-5 meter car with a bold road presence. The tires will be 21″ ones. Two variants will be on offer: platinum and signature. The Santa Fe will be launched as a 7-seater flagship SUV with its rivals being the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and MG Gloster. This helps us estimate the ex-showroom price range to be ₹45Lacs-₹54Lacs. The expected launch of the car is in September 2024. But, some sources also expect the launch to be as delayed as February 2025.

4. Nissan X-Trail

Nissan has seen average sales in the Indian market for the past couple of years but things could change this year for Nissan as the brand is willing to launch its X-Trail SUV in the Indian car market.

This SUV will come with a 2.0L Diesel Engine with 6 Speed Manual Transmission producing 142bHp and 200Nm of torque. The SUV will be based on a monocoque platform and will rival the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan. It will have a seating capacity for 5 and 7 passengers and the ground clearance will be 200mm. The length of the car will be 4681mm. The SUV will be priced in the range of ₹35Lacs-₹44Lacs and is expected to launch in early 2024.

5. Tata Curvv

We have all seen the phenomenal growth of Tata in the post-pandemic period thanks to its Land Rover-centric design language implementation and provision of safety features. Their upcoming SUV named Curvv showcased in the Bharat Mobility Expo will be no different.

This EV from Tata will pack a 56.5kWh battery back which will give it a range of 400-500km on a single charge. The car will not be supporting any provision for fast charging and will take about 4 hours to charge fully. The max speed will be 185km/h and will feature a sunroof. The seating capacity will be for 5 and the SUV will have a Coupe-like design. The car will be offered in Automatic Transmission and will have a length of 4308mm. The expected ex-showroom price will be starting from ₹10.5Lacs and will top at ₹22Lacs. The release date is expected to be on 16th July 2024. However, it may also be delayed as much as October 2024.
